We currently have an exciting Full Time opportunity for an Electrification Energy Manager to join the regional Energy and Environmental Sustainability (EES) Facilities Management team. This role is based out of Queen’s Park Care Centre in New Westminster, BC.

 

In this key role, you will be responsible for providing leadership for planning, designing and efficient operation of energy supply and demand systems at assigned locations throughout Fraser Health and other lower mainland health organizations. This includes effective collaboration with all Facilities Management teams, Senior Leadership and external partners; ensuring that the Organizations are aligned with provincial and local government climate change planning and legislation.

 

Build on your education and experience as you:

  • Provides strategic leadership for planning, designing and efficient operation of energy supply and demand systems and, working collaboratively with the Organization’s Energy Managers and Climate Risk and Resilience manager.
  • Provides technical expertise on site based electrification and low carbon resilience plans in accordance with climate change mitigation and adaptation legislation.
  • Manages project budgets to ensure effective implementation of low carbon resilience planning.
  • In collaboration with planning and project teams, provides assessments of electrification strategies during the planning, business case and procurement phase of major projects.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key business leaders internally and externally such as Chief Project Officers, senior Facilities leads, site leaders, BC Hydro , BC Ministries, including Ministry of Health, Environment and Climate Change Strategy to support them in understanding electrification and low carbon resilience.
  • Provides technical guidance and expertise to the Energy and Environmental Sustainability (EES) Climate Risk program to support development of resilience and adaptation plans for Organizations portfolio.
  • Ensures alignment with the duties and goals, as listed in the BC Hydro Electrification Energy Manager agreement. 

As the successful candidate you have:

  • Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Building Technology or related field with a professional designation and additional training in energy / carbon reduction design and strategic management.
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years’ recent related experience in a large complex multi-site environment.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience is acceptable

Valid B.C. Driver's license and access to personal vehicle for business related purposes.

Detailed Overview

Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families:


Reporting to the Director, Energy & Environmental Sustainability, the Electrification Energy Manager provides strategic leadership for planning, designing and efficient operation of energy supply and demand systems at assigned locations in Fraser Health, Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, Provincial Health Services Authority and Providence Health Care (collectively, the “Organizations”). This includes effective collaboration with all Facilities Management teams, Senior Leadership and external partners; ensuring that the Organizations are aligned with provincial and local government climate change planning and legislation. The Manager negotiates and facilitates consensus both internally and externally to the organization regarding energy / carbon-focused project plans and represents the Health Authority on related industry committees. Key partnerships include site leadership teams, facilities management staff and project managers as well as representatives from external agencies and organizations such as BC Hydro, Climate Action Secretariat and other external contractors.

Responsibilities

  1. Provides strategic leadership for planning, designing and efficient operation of energy supply and demand systems and, working collaboratively with the Organization’s Energy Managers and Climate Risk and Resilience manager, provides technical expertise on site based electrification and low carbon resilience plans in accordance with climate change mitigation and adaptation legislation.
  2. Manages project budgets to ensure effective implementation of low carbon resilience planning. Works with assigned staff to review, analyze and interpret low carbon emissions data; implements appropriate changes to the project and / or project scope to meet specific Greenhouse Gas targets for the Organizations.
  3. In collaboration with planning and project teams, provides assessments of electrification strategies during the planning, business case and procurement phase of major projects .
  4. Maintains industry leading knowledge of electrification and low carbon reduction practices and technologies by liaising with other experts, reviewing current literature and attended various seminars and/or conferences on passive/low carbon solutions.
  5. Develops and maintains relationships with key business leaders internally and externally such as Chief Project Officers, senior Facilities leads, site leaders, BC Hydro , BC Ministries, including Ministry of Health, Environment and Climate Change Strategy to support them in understanding electrification and low carbon resilience.
  6. Partners with internal and external partners to ensure collaborative approach for efficient design and construction for major infrastructure projects; identify opportunities to align new construction major projects with external partner incentive programs.
  7. Champions use of Green Building rating systems and provides the necessary expertise to influence project design in alignment with Healthy Built Environmental principles; engaging and education project partners on the benefits and health outcomes of these rating systems.
  8. Provides technical guidance and expertise to the Energy and Environmental Sustainability (EES) Climate Risk program to support development of resilience and adaptation plans for Organizations portfolio.
  9. Provides technical support, planning and expertise in electrification and low carbon initiatives and participates on energy/emissions management and sustainability teams, committees and working groups; supports training and on-going coaching for engagement programs in collaboration with EES Director, Managers and the Workplace Leadership engagement Sustainability Consultant.
  10. Provides ongoing leadership and advice to senior internal leadership and other key partners by guiding and participating in the development and implementation of CleanBC policy and standards.
  11. Provides work direction, practice guidance and coaching to regional Energy Coordinators.
  12. Ensures alignment with the duties and goals, as listed in the BC Hydro Electrification Energy Manager agreement.

Qualifications

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Building Technology or related field with a professional designation and additional training in energy / carbon reduction design and strategic management supplemented by seven (7) to ten (10) years’ recent related experience in a large complex multi-site environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Valid B.C. Driver's license and access to personal vehicle for business related purposes.
