This position will support Nurse Practitioners in the Fraser Northwest Surgical Acute care areas including Burnaby Hospital (BH), Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH), and Eagle Ridge Hospital (ERH)
Burnaby Hospital is a large community hospital which provides care to the province’s third-largest municipality and services offered include primary and secondary acute care as well as a number of specialized services such as 24/7 emergency care, general and internal medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, ambulatory care and other outpatient clinics.
As B.C.’s oldest hospital, and one of its busiest, Royal Columbian provides expert care to the province’s most seriously ill or injured. Royal Columbian Hospital also provides a number of highly specialized acute care services such as tertiary trauma, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, interventional cardiology, thoracic surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, and vascular surgery that often require the care of multiple medical specialists, multidisciplinary care teams and the use of specialized equipment and technology.
As a community hospital, Eagle Ridge Hospital provides primary and secondary acute care and some specialty services that can be accessed with or without referrals, such as 24/7 emergency, diagnostics, inpatient and outpatient care in general medicine, rehabilitation, surgery and other specialty services such as urology, plastics, and orthopedics.
We are currently looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join us in a locum capacity working with the Surgical teams across the Fraser Health Region. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible and accountable for the comprehensive assessment of patients/clients/residents including diagnosing diseases, disorders, and conditions. The Nurse Practitioner initiates treatment including health care management, therapeutic interventions and prescribes medications in accordance with the statutory and regulatory standards, limits, and conditions, and employer policies and procedures. The Nurse Practitioner provides professional guidance to other health professionals and practices autonomously and interdependently within the context of an interdisciplinary health care team, making referrals to specialist physicians and others as appropriate.
The position collaborates with patients/clients/residents and other health professionals to identify and assess trends and patterns that have implications for patients/clients/residents, families and communities; develops and implements population and evidence based strategies to improve health and participates in policy-making activities that influence health services and practices. The position participates in peer review and self review to evaluate the outcome of services at the patient/client/resident, community and population level.
Education and Experience
Current practicing registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Recent relevant clinical nursing experience.
