We are looking for a Relief Full Time Maintenance Engineer/Maintenance Worker 5 to join our Plant Services and Construction team at Langley Memorial Hospital located in Langley, B.C. This opportunity is available until Apil 1st 2023.

 

 Join our Facilities Maintenance and Operations team – a department that provides hospital site-based stewardship of physical assets including structural, mechanical and electrical systems through programs of preventative, predictive and demand maintenance and long-term infrastructure renewal.

Detailed Overview

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, operates and maintains hospital boilers, heating, cooling, air handling, ventilation, and emergency power systems; maintains, services and performs electrical and mechanical repairs to hospital equipment and machinery; repairs electrical and installs/repairs plumbing; maintains grounds; and designs, repairs and constructs furniture.

Responsibilities


  1. Ensures that equipment such as heating, cooling, air handling, ventilation, computerized controls and pump systems are functioning properly. Records temperatures, pressures, equipment condition and observations on the log sheet. Remedies abnormalities by adjusting instrumentation or repairing malfunctions as required.

  2. Operates and maintains hospital boiler systems. Repairs or replaces valves, bearings, seals, fan belts, electric motors, pumps, etc. Makes adjustments to computerized temperature and equipment operation control systems.

  3. Makes electrical repairs on equipment under 120 volts such as replacing ballasts switches, receptacles and light bulbs, and ensures electrical equipment is grounded. Inspects residents' electrical equipment such as radios, televisions, razors, etc., for defects such as faulty or broken wires and improper grounding.

  4. Performs electrical and mechanical repairs to hospital equipment such as autoclaves, washers, sterilizers and dryers. Repairs hospital equipment such as compressors, kitchen equipment, refrigerating equipment, wheelchairs, beds, and sterilizers by troubleshooting operational problems, checking wiring connections, fan belts, valves, temperatures. Reports deficiencies or problems to Maintenance Supervisor.

  5. Performs plumbing repairs such as unplugging sinks, toilets, replacing/repairing faucets and installs/replaces plumbing fixtures such as taps, sinks and toilets by extending and/or changing water supply/waste lines and fitting pipes.

  6. Following a preventive maintenance program and duties, services all hospital equipment and machinery including complete overhauling of equipment such as air handling units, exhaust fans, circulating pumps, boilers and rolling stock.

  7. Operates and maintains emergency electrical power generator by test running the generator and transferring electrical load to it as per electrical codes and maintains a log of test on/off time.

  8. Assists the Maintenance Supervisor with major repairs such as annual boiler inspections, seasonal overhauls and winterizing as required. Assists in the installation of electricity cable under 120 volts, computer/telephone cable, and water and pneumatic lines. Assists in the installation of medical equipment such as bath tubs and whirlpool tubs. Assists service company technicians by explaining and troubleshooting the problem as required.

  9. Clears clogged roof gutters and outside drains. Clears snow from sidewalk and salts as required.

  10. From work orders, constructs to specification partitions, shelves, cupboards, tables, and applies finishing materials such as drywall, counter top laminate as well as paint and stain.

  11. Provides instruction to the Maintenance Worker (MW3) when working in the engineering areas.

  12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Certificate of competency as a 4th Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of B.C. Four years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
