Detailed Overview

Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for the assessment/evaluation, treatment, education and management of designated patients/clients requiring physiotherapy, activation therapeutic activities in extended care. Performs related educational and assigned administrative duties; provides direction and supervision to activity staff and rehabilitation assistants.

Responsibilities

  1. Plans and provides physiotherapy assessment, treatment and education for residents in assigned area(s) in accordance with physician's specific order and referrals.
  2. Develops and maintains work schedule through individual or group treatment sessions in cooperation with other disciplines as necessary.
  3. Supervises and provides work direction to assigned support staff; coordinates therapeutic activities and provides input into the performance evaluations of assigned support staff.
  4. Educates clients, relevant family or care providers on an individual basis or in groups.
  5. Acts as team leader coordinating activation team for client assessments and development of care plans. Supervises Rehabilitation Assistants by distributing work assignments.
  6. Exchanges patient information with colleagues and members of health care team through care plans, direct or written communication, family conferences. Participates in discharge planning.
  7. Ensures equipment is safe and in good working order.
  8. Assists in development, implementation and evaluation of department policies and programs and maintains statistical records on department activities.
  9. Attends appropriate medical rounds, conferences, lectures, and meetings as appropriate. Participates in various hospital committees/programs as assigned.
  10. Participates in and contributes to staff education within the department, hospital and region.
  11. Keeps current in new techniques and technology related to patient care and maintains and upgrades clinical skills through attendance at approved courses, seminars, etc.
  12. Contributes to the department's Quality Improvement Program by assisting with the development of standards, audits and program evaluation as assigned.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduation from an approved Physiotherapy Program. Two (2) years of recent experience or post-graduate training in gerontology, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current full registration with the College of Physical Therapists of BC (CPTBC). Eligible for membership in the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia (PABC).
