Detailed Overview

Reporting clinically to the Professional Practice Chief, Respiratory Therapy and administratively to the Manager, Clinical Operations, performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to respiratory therapy; assists with in-services/education and provides input into program development at Eagle Ridge Hospital.

Responsibilities

  1. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic assessments, interventions and follow-ups as related to respiratory therapy such as assisting with cardiopulmonary resuscitation and support, initiating/maintaining mechanical ventilator support of adults, children and infants, providing airway management, patient evaluation and daily care of patients, as prescribed.
  2. Provides family, patient and staff education which may include participating in established education programs such as that offered through the Asthma Clinic.
  3. Requisitions supplies and minor equipment for departmental operations within approved budget; maintains area supply inventory.
  4. Participates in quality improvement activities such as development, implementation and evaluation of written procedures and standards, development of assessment forms and patient materials and the development of departmental goals and objectives.
  5. Communicates on-call, call-backs, staffing, budget and operational concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  6. Maintains documentation by ensuring reports, record and workload statistics are complete and accurate according to established departmental standards.
  7. Monitors and performs required maintenance, cleaning, calibration, evaluation and quality control of respiratory and related equipment.
  8. Provides input into the departmental operating and capital budgets; monitors and maintains departmental operations as required.
  9. Participates in meetings and departmental committees and contributes to problem identification and resolution.
  10. Participates in respiratory therapy student education, as required.
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduation from an approved Respiratory Therapy program. Two (2) years' recent related clinical experience in an acute care setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care (CBRC) credentialing exam and eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT).

Current CPR Level "C" or equivalent and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of respiratory therapy and respiratory diseases as it relates to the position
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload
  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
